Construction Specifications Canada is a national, multi-disciplinary,
non-profit association dedicated to the improvement of communication,
contract documentation and technical information in the Design and
CSC pursues the study of systems and procedures which will improve the
co-ordination and dissemination of documentation relevant to the total
Some of the extensive publications we offer are the CSC Tec Aids dealing with
such topics as Hazardous Substances, Concrete, Rough Carpentry,
Waterproofing, Air Barriers, Insulation, Glazing and Curtain Wall. In
collaboration with other associations we produce such Study Guides as the
Tile, Marble and Terrazzo (ITMAC) booklets and, in conjunction with
our American counterpart CSI, the Masterformat, Sectionformat and Pageformat
In addition, we also distribute the National Master Spec or NMS. We seek to
enhance the quality of the design and management aspects of construction
activity through programs of publication, education and professional
development, believing that by so doing we can best contribute to the
efficiency and effectiveness of the industry as a whole. To this end we offer
the nationally recognized and industry accepted Certified Technical
Representative (CTR), Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA) as
well as Registered Specification Writer (RSW) training programs.
The objectives of CSC are:
Our membership, on a local or chapter level, draws from specification
writers, architects, engineers, building technologists, interior designers,
contractors, construction trades personnel and associations, design and
inspection authorities, government agencies and ministries, manufacturers,
suppliers, and distributors. In short, with all those within the design and
construction industry as members, we believe we have the potential for the
widest reach and greatest impact.
- to foster the interests of those who are engaged in or who are affected
by the compilation or use of any form of specifications or related
documentation for the construction industry.
- to publish technical and support literature for the specification as well
as the design and construction industry
- to engage in activities which improve or promote procedures and
techniques related to the construction process and industry.
The Vancouver Chapter meets once a month on the first or second Thursday with
a guest speaker and/or a tour (lunch or dinner included) with the cost of around
$25.00, payable at the door with advance notice preferred. The location and
event is published in our newsletter. Our meetings are informative and fun
and if you like golf, join us for our annual golf tournament.
Nationally we publish the Construction Canada magazine which each month
focuses on a particular relevant theme or specific topic such as: site work,
atriums, doors, and roofing (to name some recent topics). On the local level,
we publish a newsletter for our members once a month (excepting July and
August) that includes our meeting notices as well as articles and issues of
interest. There is space for advertising products, services or events - an
excellent and affordable way to promote your company.
Every second year, we host a trade show called INFONET. If you wish to
participate, please let us know as soon as possible. I encourage you to join
us at our monthly meeting and I definitely hope to see you and your
association at INFONET.
