DESC: The Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center (NFESC)
has developed a cross reference list matching Federal and Military
standard specifications with specifications developed by MPI
(The Master Painters Institute). The list is to be used by
field personnel and contractors in selecting commercial "off-the-shelf"
coatings for Navy Architectural and Industrial Maintenance
coatings projects as specified using NFGS-09900. NFGS-09900,
Paints and Coatings, is the Naval Facilities Engineering Command
generic Guide Specification for painting/ coating architectural
structures including light industrial applications. NFGS-09900
specifies the Military, Federal and Commercial Item Description
(CID) standard paints and coatings to be used in a particular
application. The next revision of NFGS-09900 will contain the
MPI references and will be effective when issued around October
2000. Decisions on whether to use a particular product will
be based on whether it is listed under an MPI specification
or not. To have your paint and coating products placed on this
list, please contact MPI at (604) 298-7578. Vendors should
provide information and products to be tested to MPI within
three months. Closing date for this announcement is first cutoff
1 May 2000, second cutoff is 30 June 2000. This notice is not
a request for proposals and no contract will be awarded solely
on the basis of the responses hereto, or any follow-up information
subsequently solicited. . A table listing the Federal paint
specifications used in NFGS-09900 that have been matched to
an MPI specification can be found on the Internet.
