Painting Specifications
The SPPCA prepares technical specifications for surface preparation and painting that are tailored to the specific requirements of each project. On site inspections of all substrates lead to appropriate surface preparation and to the choice of suitable coating systems.
Quality Assurance Program
The key features of our Quality Assurance or Inspection and Guarantee program are as follows:
- Paint and application must conform to MPI standards regardless of the tendered price.
- Substrates are inspected to ensure adequate surface preparation prior to painting.
- Temperature, moisture and humidity readings are taken to ensure that conditions are appropriate for painting.
- Unbiased reports are issued to all interested parties after regular and thorough inspections.
- Upon satisfactory completion of the project, a two year third party guarantee is issued to the owner or property manager.
The fee for the Quality Assurance Program is
5% of the contract price for re-paint
projects and 5% for new construction. Typically, it is included
in the contract price but
can be handled separately as well.
This modest fee may be easily justified by fewer repaints and reduced
interim maintenance. It
has been shown that the program ensures
paint jobs conform to specifications. Without regular inspections,
completed work often amounts to only
60-65% of requirements. With the
Quality Assurance Program, 95-98% of the job meets specifications.
That's an average 35% value gain
on your paint project.
Consultation
The inspection services are also available on
a consultative basis. In addition
to ensuring conformance with MPI standards, we are often retained
for failure remedy and dispute
resolution. There is a $85 per hour
charge for consultations and a minimum of three hours will be billed.
